Trails can also be obscured using this Skill. A successful BCS allows the character to roll the Effect Die for his Wit Group. This result is the negative modifier to the BCS of anyone trying to use Tracking Skill to follow the trail.
Urban Tracking isn't just looking at a bent branch or footprint. Think more "Dog the Bounty Hunter" than Native American in an old B&W movie. A character might ask around town about the person or look in abandoned buildings for old campsites.
Rural Tracking is finding a trail in the mud or sand, a broken branch, a blood trail or candy wrappers and determining which direction the subject is likely traveling, and finding points at which to pickup their trail again if it is lost.
Characters can use their tracking skill to determine where a character might go based on their heading. Is there a town that way? Might there be an excellent place to hide out? The tracking character's knowledge of the area will allow them to have fewer negatives. If they don't know about the secret cave or friendly community because they are not from the site, Tracking is more complex.
This isn't simply, "I roll tracking." Tracking is more like a step-by-step investigation. Just because the person being tracked got into a car doesn't mean the trail has gone cold. The tracker might know by the direction they are going that the tracked person is heading to the next town.
